Devi Sri Prasad scores for Salman!

The composer’s popular tune is rocking the charts in Bollywood too, as TOI finds out
Young and happening music director Devi Sri Prasad, popularly known as DSP, is making waves with his music. After the trailer of the Salman Khan-Asin starrer, Ready, was telecast on television, people have been calling up DSP to find whether he has scored the music for the Bollywood film! The peppy number in the trailer, Dhinka Chika..., sounds similar to the composer’s Telugu chartbuster, Ringa Ringa..., from Allu Arjun’s hit Arya-2!
Talking exclusively to CT from Mumbai, where the audio of Ready was launched recently, DSP said, “I’ve given the Ringa Ringa...tune to Salman Bhai. He loved it immensely and wanted to use it in his Ready. Pritam is the music director of the film, but I’ve been given credit for this particular number.”
DSP says Salman first heard the Ringa Ringa... number at the Maldives, where one of his assistants was constantly playing it on his music player. Soon, the actor fell in love with the tune and wanted it to be used for one of his films. Producer Bhushan Kumar and music director Pritam decided to incorporate it in Ready.
As the producer has given credit to DSP for the superhit tune, this will officially mark the composer’s forway into Bollywood. The buzz in industry circles is that other Bollywood stars too were keen on buying the rights of the tune, but Salman piped them to it.
Interestingly, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and Shriya Saran chose Ringa Ringa... from among the three songs from south Indian films to dance at the grand opening ceremony of the current season of the IPL. Today, the marketing of Hindi films is increasingly dependent on its music. Recent examples of numbers becoming an anthem can be seen in the success of numbers like Munni Badnaam... (Dabangg) and Chaar Baj Gaye... (F.A.L.T.U).
The composer performed the song live at the audio launch of Ready. Says the composer, “I met Salman Khan for the first time at the audio launch. The minute the star saw me, he said, ‘You’re the man, DSP!’ He immediately hugged me and insisted that I perform the song.” He adds, “Dhinka Chinka... has become an anthem of sorts. After the audio launch, Salman bhai hugged me and said it was a rocking tune. I’m very happy that the song is already topping the charts, despite the film’s release being a month away.”
Meanwhile, DSP plans to do a Hindi film album. He has a bank of peppy hit tunes in Tamil and Telugu to choose from. Concludes the musician, “That’s happening. Besides, I will definitely do a Hindi film before the end of the year. As of now, my latest Telugu film, Mr Perfect, is doing great business at the BO. In Tamil, I have Venghai coming up for release. I will be signing a Tamil project with a big hero shortly.”
